The Storm Within You

There’s a saying that has always stayed with me: “Every storm runs out of rain.” These words by, Maya Angelou are a powerful reminder that no matter how intense or overwhelming life’s challenges may seem, they are temporary. Just as the fiercest storms eventually pass, so too will the struggles and hardships you’re facing.

Resilience is built in those moments when you feel like the storm will never end. It’s in the moments when the winds are howling, the rain is pouring, and everything feels uncertain. It’s easy to lose sight of the sunshine when you’re in the middle of a downpour. But the beauty of resilience is that even in the heaviest rain, the strength to endure and to keep moving forward is already within you.  I know this first-hand having endured thirteen years of metastatic cancer.

The Storm Within You

We all face storms in life—whether they’re external pressures, personal losses, or moments of self-doubt. What I’ve come to realize in my work as an ontological coach is that we often forget how capable we are of navigating these storms. It’s not that we should ignore the emotional weight of the situation, but rather that we must trust ourselves to weather the storm, knowing that it will pass.

Remember, you are the sky, and the storm is just the weather. You are the vast, unshakable presence that can hold even the fiercest winds. Every challenge you face is just temporary—no matter how heavy the rain, the storm will always run its course.

Your Resilience: The Sun After the Rain

Resilience isn’t about avoiding the rain. It’s about learning how to dance in it, to let it cleanse you and shape you. It’s about knowing that the storm is a chapter, not the entire story. When you reach the other side of that storm, you emerge with more clarity, more wisdom, and a greater appreciation for the calm that follows.

The sun will shine again, and when it does, you’ll be stronger, more centered, and more aligned with your true self. The storm has changed you, but it hasn’t broken you. It has merely polished the gem that is your spirit.

Practical Reminders to Weather Your Storm

Here are a few ways you can remind yourself of your inner resilience when you find yourself in the midst of a storm:

  1. Breathe Deeply
The storm may feel overwhelming, but remember, your breath is always with you. A deep breath can ground you, even in the fiercest winds. Pause, inhale, and exhale. You’ve got this.
  2. Find Moments of Stillness
In the chaos, find small moments of calm. Even if it’s just for a few minutes, take time to center yourself. This stillness is the eye of the storm, a place where you can reconnect with your inner strength.
  3. Reach Out for Support
You don’t have to go through this alone. Reach out to those who care about you. Whether it’s a friend, a mentor, or a coach, there are people who want to stand beside you through your journey.
  4. Trust the Process
Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect, but trust that every experience is teaching you something valuable. Even the storms are leading you somewhere new.
  5. Embrace Your Growth
When the storm passes, take a moment to reflect on the strength you’ve gained through it. Growth doesn’t always feel comfortable, but it is always worthwhile.

A Final Thought: You Are the Light

As you move through life’s storms, remember that you are the light that can guide you to the other side. You don’t need to rush the process or try to control the weather. Trust that, like all storms, this too shall pass.

When it does, the sky will be clearer, the air will be fresher, and you will stand taller—stronger, wiser, and more attuned to the beautiful resilience within you.

Every storm runs out of rain—and in its wake, there is always a brighter, more peaceful horizon waiting for you.
